The mystery of Godwin Grech and the missing email: some questions with no answers

Australian politics are in a firestorm over the possibility of favors for mates, and emails to public servants that may or may not be fake. Nothing makes sense… here are some questions about the situation that there seem to be no answers to.

1. If Godwin Grech was just a rogue public servant acting alone, why was the Australian Treasury running interference when he was being questioned by the Senate?
2. Who instructed his boss to prevent him from answering questions?
3. How did Malcolm Turnbull know what he was going to say?
4. If Mr Grech was intent on creating a fraudulent email, why would he undermine his own plan by suggesting that his memory of the email was faulty?
5. If he wanted to discredit the government, why would he refuse to give answers to the Senate, rather than making damning allegations?
6. It emerged this week that Mr Grech briefly worked for Joe Hockey, the shadow treasurer, some years back. How did this information come to light? Has the government been digging dirt on Mr Grech, or instructing government departments to do so?
7. Does the Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, have an opinion about whether Wayne Swan misled parliament?
8. Does Wayne Swan have an opinion about that?
9. Does anyone care whether Wayne Swan misled parliament any more?
10. Or is that sooo last week?

So many questions. Nothing makes sense.

Also, did Turnbull have to apologise for asking Rudd to respond to an article in a popular newspaper and the sworn testimony of a senior public servant? Are such questions now off limits?

So, apart from dancing while Pied Piper Rudd plays flute, what is the Opposition’s job now?
