Obama’s neatly packaged, nuanced approach to Iran has been wrecked by recent events in that country. He needs to condemn the government and give support to the protestors, but he can’t because he’s terrified of losing the rapport he built up with the Iranian President.

Why hasn’t President Obama “gotten” Iran right? For two reasons. First, he thinks of Iran as a negotiating partner, not an enemy. And second, he thinks of America as unworthy of leading the fight for freedom.
That could be the problem. It could also be true that he simply does not understand the difference between free societies and unfree societies.
