A major longitudinal study has found seven factors that predict healthy ageing.

Employing mature adaptations
Education
stable marriage
not smoking
not abusing alcohol
some exercise, and
healthy weight.

You might at this point be tempted to quote Clement Freud: “If you resolve to give up smoking, drinking and loving, you don’t actually live longer; it just seems longer.”

Perhaps taking actions that slow ageing and lengthen lifespan take the fun out of life. That’s a choice for each of us to make. As for me, death and ageing scare me enough that I take this kind of information seriously.
