The Australian Federal Government is regulating the child care industry into the ground (I’ve noted this before).
.
As of September 1 2009, it’s even worse.
New regulations coming into force allow bureaucrats to fine child care centres $44,000 for a mistake, including mis-spellings when entering the computer, and $22,000 for individuals.
Yep, that’s right… workers who don’t earn that much already, in an industry with high turnover, can be fined the equivalent of a year’s salary for making two mistakes.
This is a stupid and cruel policy.
It’s amazing that something like that actually has to be said. It should be obvious.
What other professions can have such massive fines imposed by bureaucrats? Are the Canberra-based paper-pushers who dreamed up this scheme answerable for their mistakes with five figure fines?
Over-regulation has a predictable effect: new regulations will increase child care fees by up to $5000 a year.
