Britain’s thinking twice about letting Australia’s own Dr Death inside their borders. Nitschke and his wife have been detained at Heathrow airport, and questioned about whether they were going to commit criminal acts.
AUSTRALIAN euthanasia advocate Philip Nitschke has been detained by British authorities at Heathrow airport, his lawyer says.Dr Nitschke flew into London on Saturday for a series of public meetings and workshops on voluntary euthanasia to be held across the UK next week.
There are some in Britain who aren’t exactly thrilled about his visit. But maybe he just wants to help out with their over-supply of senile people.
Nitschke’s glorous world tour doesn’t seem to be going according to plan. He was scheduled to give a talk in Singapore, but the local police are having none of it, and are refusing to let him talk.
The police had no immediate comment on a report by the local Straits Times newspaper saying the group was denied a meeting permit because of fears that it would promote suicide attempts, which is a crime here along with assisting suicide.
I find Nitschke’s views misguided and dangerous, and I think euthanasia should not be legalised. But he has the right to express his views, no matter how wrong or distasteful they are. Britain and Singapore are restricting free speech.
Let the guy speak. Just don’t let him kill anyone.
