Inglourious Basterds

The good.

  • Lots of edge-of-your-seat suspense, to the point that I could barely take it;
  • Brad Pitt does the most authentic Southern accent ever (I guess living in Louisiana with Angelina and the kids helped with that); He was also very entertaining and generally did a great job;
  • Brilliant acting all around;
  • Lots of clever dialog.
  • Never boring.

The bad.

  • Unspeakably violent. There are things that I’m having trouble getting out of my head.
  • The bad guy gets away in the end.
  • Most of the good guys die(although admittedly most of the bad guys do too).
  • People in the cinema whooping and cheering and laughing at acts of cruelty. Apparently this is quite a common cinematic experience for this particular film.

The verdict.
I couldn’t decide if I liked it or hated it. My wife asked me:
“Would you see it again?”
No. Most definitely not. I’d rather pull my own nostril hairs with tweezers for two hours than subject myself to that film again.
“Who would you recommend it to?”
I couldn’t think of anyone I would recommend it to.

So… wouldn’t see it again, wouldn’t recommend it. I guess that’s a big thumbs down.
