Aiding and abetting

Australia is giving money to one of the most brutal dictatorships in the world: Zimbabwe.

Australia will provide $10 million to help Prime Minister Tsvangirai and the so called inclusive Government of Zimbabwe to restore basic water, sanitation and health services and relieve the suffering of the Zimbabwean people.

Some serious skepticism about this at Agmates Rural News:

When Morgan Tsvangirai was sworn in as Prime Minister he said that the seizure of White farmers land would stop. Clearly it hasn’t. That makes him either a puppet Prime Minister or a liar.

Australia’s Rudd Labor government now joins other western governments as a financial supporter of Mugabe’s despotic rule.

Everyone agrees, of course, that it would be great if water, sanitation and health services were available to all Zimbabweans. If the money is used for good, then it’s hard to object. But how will we ever know?
